The Devout Woman: Evaluating between Traditional and Christian Beliefs

A lot has been said about women’s freedom. If there is one area of male-femalepropaganda, it’s the claim that women were denied their freedom. the Devout Woman, by Professor OdongoAginya speaks contrary to that misconception. Women, especially, the Acholi of Uganda, had always beenfree since the symbiotic relationships between Christianity and African Traditional worship. It also dispels the notion that African women were saddled with the task of having dozens of children instead of either one or two children. Prior to the beginning of the 20th century, Acholi women already had independence and freedom, and were defying traditions in an age when women in the Western and Christian society were still under their male societal domination. Fictional as the setting is, but entranced in Acholi tribe of Northern Uganda cultural and traditional religion believes; this is a must read book for all persons who are openminded and progressive. Whether you are religious or not, and if you only have to read one book this year, pick up The Devout Woman; it’s a testimony to the freedom our women world over who are devouted to their spouses or their religious believes; have always had through the centuries despite men's effort at twisting the truth and attempting to suppress women’s rights in many cultures!
